Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary Open House

Sunday September 25, 2011 was the annual Open House & Fundraiser at Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary.

I have always wanted to visit the place for a few months now and this was my chance. The aura and vibe was something I have been searching for for quite some time. The first thing you notice is the rolling hills and the grasslands. For an overcast day, it was a beautiful site to see.

The animals living there had been rescues for numerous places. It was delightful seeing the lambs, goats, chickens, and pigs behaving naturally and freely. The cows were allowed to roam free. Given that it was an open house, guests were able to interact with the animals.

There was also a guest speaker; author of The 30 Day Vegan Challenge numerous others gave an inspiring and heartfelt speech followed by a 70's festival-esque band. The vegan food donated by restaurants such as the vegetable garden really took it home.

I can't wait to start volunteering there and breaking into the animal-rights realm.
